Frequently Answered Questions
When and where does Troop 90 meet?
Troop 90 meets almost every Monday at 7:00 pm at Easthills Community Church in Riverside. On some Mondays instead we have our Committee/Parents Meeting, that's about 5 times a year, or so depending on the schedule. (All parents are encouraged to attend!)
Also, once a quarter (4 times per year) we have a Court of Honor in place of our regular meeting.
How long has Troop 90 been around?

Troop 90 has been around since 1948 and celebrated its 60th Anniversary in 2008.

What does Troop 90 do?
Troop 90 is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, and is chartered by the Riverside Arlington Kiwanis. As part of the Scouting program, our Troop goes on several campouts and other activities throughout the year, including a week-long summer camp. Our Troop also provides our community with many hours of service each month through the "Service Hours" that each Scout is required to put in for each rank of advancement.
Who can join?
Any boy who subscribes to the Scout Oath and Law and:
  • Has earned the Arrow of Light -or-
  • Has completed the fifth grade -or-
  • Is between the ages of 11 and 17
Of course, to join Troop 90, it would also help if you live in our area.

What if I am not quite old enough?

Scouting offers the Cub Scout program for younger boys:

  • Tiger Cubs. First-grade boys join a Tiger Cub den, where each boy works with an adult partner on the requirements to earn his Tiger Cub badge.

  • Wolf Cub Scouts. Second-grade boys graduate into a Wolf den. They go to weekly den meetings on their own, but their families still help them work on the requirements for the Wolf badge.

  • Bear Cub Scouts. Boys in the third grade are members of a Bear den. They also work with their families to do the requirements for the Bear badge, but boys this old have enough knowledge and skill to take on more of the work by themselves.

  • Webelos Scouts. Boys in the fourth and fifth grades become Webelos Scouts. Webelos Scouts do more advanced activities to get ready to graduate into Boy Scouting.

Troop 90 is closely affiliated with Cub Scout Packs 90, 62 and 97 - a lot of these boys join Troop 90 when they are old enough!

What if I think I'm too old? What if I'm a girl?

Not a problem. Troop 90 has a Venture Crew (Crew 90, surprisingly enough) that currently meets right before the Troop meeting at 6pm. (check the Calendar and select the Venture schedule for for specific dates). Venture crews get to do some nifty things that Boy Scouts are not allowed to do. If you are between the ages of 14 and 20, male or female, drop by and see us!
