Dear Friends, Family and Fellow Scouters

Thank you for helping Troop 90 memorialize this, our 60th Anniversary. With this achievement, Troop 90 becomes one of the oldest Boy Scout Troops in the Inland Empire.

This achievement comes with recognition that this could not occur in a vacuum. It is only with the past and present support of our community that makes this Anniversary event possible. Without the support of our Charter Organization, the Kiwanis Club of Riverside - Arlington and the time and effort of so many parents, community leaders, Scouts and Scouters, both past and present, Troop 90 would not be the Troop it is.

Troop 90 is, by design, a boy-run and boy-led Troop. The adult Troop leaders recognize this as a way for the youth to learn and utilize valuable leadership skills. Skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. That Troop 90 is a large and successful Troop and attracts Scouts from as far afield as Perris and Corona is a testament to the leadership skills demonstrated by the Scouts.

Troop 90 is not only large, but very active. Our typical calendar is one filled with outings (generally one per month), meetings (we meet most Mondays), Service Projects benefitting the local community (6 to 8 per year) and several Eagle Scout Leadership Projects each year.

Speaking of Eagle Scouts, Troop 90 has been very successful in having a large number of Scouts who have had the desire, inclination (and parental support) to achieve Scouting's highest rank, that of Eagle Scout. Please visit our page that lists those Scouts who deserve to be listed on this "Honor Roll".

As Troop 90 starts its 7th decade of service to the youth of our community, it is important to remember that on February 8, 2010, the National Boy Scouts of America will be celebrating a century of service to our country and community.

As with any success story, there are countless helpers and volunteers that make it all possible, and to name them all is beyond my ability - you know who you are - but some special recognition is in order:

Michael Burk, Scoutmaster
Michael Stong, Charter Organization Representative, past Scoutmaster
Jim Hohl, past Scoutmaster
Steve Bradley, past Committee Chair
Jennifer Smalley, Treasurer
Donene Gettis, Advancement Chair
Sherrie Marcinov, Secretary
Dave Aguilar, Popcorn / Fundraiser Chair
Hugh Smith, Quartermaster
Cheryl Riding, Outing Coordinator
Mike Hare, Assistant Scoutmaster / Webmaster
Craig Gilbert, Pastor East Hills Community Church

And a big thanks to the members and staff at East Hills Community Church for allowing us to hold our meetings here in such pleasant surroundings.

Thank you everyone for helping Troop 90 to "Live the Legend!"

Scoutmaster's Minute

As I look at our troop since I joined it six plus years ago, I see that many things have changed. We have moved meeting locations numerous times, but now we have a good home. We no longer sail on the Argus, but we camp on the Midway aircraft carrier. Only a handful of boys remain from that time, but we have new boys that are keeping Troop 90 alive and very well. We have embraced the technology age and have one of the best troop websites in the counsel if not the nation.

This year at the spring Camporee, Troop 90 was honored as the "Outstanding Troop" in the district. We attended summer camp at Camp Kern and the boys did so well that the camp even asked one of our boys to stay and work the rest of the summer, which he did. We had three boys from the troop and one from the crew spend their summer working at Camp Lost Valley. Two boys staffed Foxfire and many of our boys attended Cedar Badge, Buckskin, and Foxfire this year. One of our Eagle Scouts spent his summer working at Philmont Scout Ranch.

As I watch the boys of this troop grow into outstanding young men, I am honored to have known each and every one of them. The legend is alive and well here at Troop 90.
